This was not the response CNN host Carol Costello was looking for.
During an interview Tuesday, the liberal Costello was badgering Charles Woods, father of 2012 Benghazi attack victim and Navy SEAL Tyrone Woods, about GOP nominee Donald Trump’s recent public tangle with Khizr Khan, the Muslim father of an an American Army captain who died serving in Iraq in 2004.
But Woods fired back with an epic truth bomb.
“Should Mr. Trump apologize?” Costello asked for the third time in a row on Tuesday, believing that the GOP candidate’s criticism of Khan’s speech at the Democrat National Convention was somehow inappropriate, even though Khan used the national platform to attack Trump viciously.
“I know who should apologize, and that would be Hillary Clinton, for lying to the American families who lost their loved ones as well as to the American public,” Woods fired back. “She hasn’t apologized for that yet. In fact, she’s even doubled down and called us liars which is not appropriate, not at all.”
He added, “Like I say, either she’s lying or she has a bad memory.” (Or both …)
But Hillary’s sins extend beyond just lying to the families of the Benghazi dead: Christopher Stevens, Sean Smith, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty. She also lied to the American people.
“Libya was a different kind of calculation, and we didn’t lose a single person,” she falsely claimed during a town hall event in March.
Costello then tried to pivot the focus of the conversation away from Clinton by asking Woods whom he planned to endorse this election season.
“Well, my son would still be alive if Mrs. Clinton was performing her job properly as secretary of state, so in good conscience, I cannot vote for the person who was directly responsible for the death of my son,” he replied, adding that he supports Trump.
Can you blame him? In his eyes, this election boils down to a battle between fact and fiction, and while Trump sometimes stumbles with the facts, at least he never purposefully and maliciously weaves tales of fiction like Hillary Rodham Clinton.
