James Mattis, has personally asked for more bombs to drop on ISIS terrorists in Trump’s budget process, a top Department of Defense official said Tuesday.
Secretary Mattis personally injected himself into Trump’s budget process to demand an additional $3.5 billion to fund the manufacturing of more ordnance to kill ISIS terrorists, according to the Daily Caller.
Mattis intervened in the Fiscal Year 2018 budget and put in a request for $3.5 billion in “preferred munitions” to replenish weapons stockpiles for the fight against ISIS. The petition pushes procurement for six different weapons to the maximum, acting undersecretary of defense and chief financial officer John Roth explained, according to Defense News.
Mattis was looking for some very specific weapons, the report said.
The six weapons systems include Hellfire missiles, Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs), Guided Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (GMLRS), Small Diameter Bombs (SDBs), Tomahawk missiles, and Advanced Precision Kill Weapon Systems (APKWS). The Pentagon is requesting missiles for drone strikes, bunker busters, guided rockets, cruise missiles, and other related weaponry for combat against militants in particular.
The president’s budget includes a whopping $16.4 billion for new missiles and other munitions. All specifically identified as weapons to use against terrorism.
“As we closed out this budget, over the last two or three weeks in particular, a great deal of concern was being raised with current inventory levels, particularly given some of the expenditures in the [U.S. Central Command] area of operations,” Roth told reporters when the Pentagon rolled out its budget, “So, the secretary mandated and insisted we fully fund, to the maximum extent possible, the full production capacities for certain selected preferred munitions.”
According to DC, from 2014 to 2017 the Pentagon has spent $2.8 billion on combat munitions. So, the Trump budget seriously grows that expenditure.
And we know that President Trump is not afraid to confront ISIS. Only a month ago, Trump authorized the dropping of the “Mother Of All Bombs” on an ISIS hideout wiping the entire complex off the face of the earth.
As we reported on April 15, a large number of ISIS terrorists were instantly vaporized by the dropping of the MOAB.
At least 94 militants were killed by the MOAB bomb, Afghan authorities said. It was nearly three times more than what was reported a day earlier.
“Ismail Shinwari, governor of Achin district in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar, where the 20,000-pound bomb struck Thursday evening, said there were no reports of civilian casualties,” The L.A. Times reported.
The Afghan government worked with the U.S. to coordinate the strike on the underground complex of tunnels and caves inhabited by a large ISIS cell. Afghan Special Forces also evacuated a nearby village to protect civilians from being caught in the campaign.
