Earlier today, we reported that Fox News host Bill O’Reilly announced last night that he is taking a vacation in the midst of his sexual harassment scandal that has seen over 60 companies pull their advertising from The O’Reilly Factor.
Now, it’s been revealed that 21st Century Fox CEO James Murdoch does not want O’Reilly to ever come back, and intends for last night’s show to be his last.
The Blaze reported that two “highly placed” sources within Fox said Murdoch, who leads the network’s parent company, would like O’Reilly to be taken off the air permanently. He feels the host is too big of a liability after it was revealed that O’Reilly and Fox have paid out $13 million to a total of five women in exchange for them not pursuing litigation against the conservative personality.
Though Murdoch wants O’Reilly out, not everyone at Fox wants him to go. Fox News Co-President Bill Shine has been frantically working to save O’Reilly, and both Fox News CEO Rupert Murdoch, James’ father, and 21st Century Fox Co-Chairman Lachlan Murdoch, James’ older brother, “are more inclined to keep” O’Reilly.
It should be noted that a similar dynamic occurred last year when sexual harassment allegations came to light against former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes, when James wanted him out and Rupert wanted him to stay. Ultimately, James got his way in that situation, so history may repeat itself with this one…
