In a controversial new decision, President Obama fulfilled his threats to use executive action to pass the National Defense Resources Preparedness order, which puts our nation in a permanent state of martial law. It can be activated by the president whenever he chooses.
The action is a continuation of the Defense Production Act of 1950, which was created in response to the Korean War. This latest move expands on the authority granted in that act, essentially giving the government permission to take over and control major resources at the time of declaration.
Those in opposition to the measure fear that an act of aggression towards the United States homeland by outside forces is no longer a requirement for implementation. That means that it can be put into place during a time of peace if and when Obama orders it.
Once the order is implemented, Obama will issues regulations establishing nationwide procedures and standards of production. This will include the control of “general distribution of any material (including applicable services) to the civilian market.”
All manufacturing will cease unless otherwise approved by the president, and the government will be given first rights to anything that is produced. Essentially, they will have the authority to seize private companies and facilities, and even change the way they operate.
Some fear that food supplies, all forms of energy, production, farms and equipment, water resources, civilian transportation and healthcare resources will also fall under government control.
What do you think? Is this absolutely terrifying?
