One Kentucky lawmaker is landing on the side of common sense and defying President Barack Obama in the process.
Gun-free zone signs may soon be a thing of the past in American public schools in Kentucky and other states. Republican lawmakers in the state heeded the statistics which prove gun-free zones do not protect anyone – they merely put a target on the backs of innocents.
Parents are rejoicing while Liberal seethe from inside their elitists bubbles.
Over the past seven years, 92 percent of mass shootings have happened in gun-free zones, the Blaze notes. In response to school shootings, educators and lawmakers in some states (Republican ones of course, like Texas) are in the midst of arming teachers.
Kentucky Republican Representative Thomas Massie is leading the charge to overturn gun-free zone policies at public schools around the nation. He just introduced the Safe Students Act to further his goal.
Representative Massie’s wrote the bill, also known as H.R. 34, because he believes children are consistently put in harm’s way by these gun-free zones. The Kentucky Republican wants to end the days of shooters waking into schools without facing armed opposition.
“Gun-free school zones are ineffective. They make people less safe by inviting criminals into target-rich, no-risk environments,” Massie. “Gun-free zones prevent law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves, and create vulnerable populations that are targeted by criminals.”
The Safe Students Act is being applauded by three major gun organizations. The National Association for Gun Rights, Gun Owners of America, and the National Rifle Association all support the Kentucky Republican’s efforts to protect public school children and the staff tasked with their supervision.
The Safe Students Act is co-sponsored by Texas Representatives Louie Gohmert and Brian Babin, fellow Kentucky Representative James Comer, and Georgia Representative Jody Hice. When the intended victims are armed, even crazed mass shooters might think twice about walking through the school doors.
“Since at least 1950, all but two public mass shootings in America have taken place where general citizens are banned from carrying guns. In Europe, there have been no exceptions,” John Lott said in a report for the National Review
Lott went on to say out of all the mass shootings in Europe, and there have been many over the years in the country where gun ownership is severely restricted, ALL have happened in gun-free zones.
“In addition, they have had three of the six worst K–12 school shootings, and Europe experienced by far the worst mass public shooting perpetrated by a single individual Norway in 2011, which from the shooting alone left 67 people dead and 110 wounded,” Lott continued.
Common sense governance…it’s about dang time!
