Conservative political commentator Ann Coulter dropped a bombshell column Wednesday accusing presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump of being on the verge of making “his first mistake.”
“My vice presidential prediction is: Trump is about to make his first mistake,” she wrote on her website. “Trump’s advisers are undoubtedly telling him he’s got the ‘outsider’ image covered. He needs someone with experience in Washington.”
“This is completely wrong,” she added.
She maintained that choosing a sitting Republican senator or governor who has “gotten ahead under the old model of sucking up to donors and lobbyists … would be total counter-programming to Trump’s message.”
It would also be a gift to the liberal mainstream media, who Coulter argued would try “to pry daylight between Trump and his nominee” by pressuring said nominee “to repudiate Trump — destroying Trump’s candidacy and winning himself a lifetime of media adulation.”
“How much pushing would it take for any of the GOP donor shills to sell out Trump for the media’s admiration?” she asked, adding that even former House Speaker Newt Gingrich wound up eventually selling out the presumptive GOP nominee.
“A month ago, Newt became a media darling for denouncing Trump’s attacks on a judge who belongs to a Hispanic supremacist organization,” she explained.
Instead the billionaire candidate needs to pick someone with uncompromisingly strong positions on illegal immigration and other such issues — someone who places the country’s needs over the petty wants of the rich and wealthy.
Someone like Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory or Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo, she suggested.
Note that she refrained from including Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions because she prefers that he remain in the Senate, where he can “protect Americans from the cheap labor-demanding rich.”
Regardless, Coulter’s argument was that for Trump to win this November, he must choose someone who fits perfectly with his campaign’s theme — and that advice seemed to make a lot of sense.
